How interesting… we at NMP are inspired by Mario, and we are trying to bring you a free-to-play but classic style game. What could possibly go wrong?! Well, like Google (allegedly) we have thought a lot about trying not to be evil. Soon, we hope to let you find out soon if we’ve succeeded!
Enter China! Thanks to some amazingly helpful students from Shanghai our company name is translated (phonetically) into a cool Chinese symbol. The talented graphic designer Li Huiying worked with me, creating many ideas for t-shirt graphics. One of her designs was so simple, I incorporated it into our existing logo style and the result are these awesome new products! You can see them all, along with other “specials” at our online merchandise shop.
We’d like to announce a featured artist today. For this we have to blame The Artist as he’s a nutty hip-hop head (his own words). We’ve been talking to some Finnish hip hop artists, and you can hear that in our teaser trailer, but being from the UK The Artist constantly claims that UK Hip Hip is the best in the world… so he’s been pestering some people that he follows thanks to the modern marvel of Twitter. Amazingly, the power of twitter means we managed to get hold of some exclusive music from a respected beat-maker who goes by the name Ghost. Ghost was approached for his style of music, we think it works well with our theme. He also happens to make some very nice beats….
So Steal2 will feature an exclusive track by Ghost. Click his name to find out more, and buy his stuff please! We hope to collaborate more with him in the future. .
note from The Artist: “here’s a great Ghost track, as a teaser- also featuring one of my favourite MCs”
So today there’s a newspaper article about our game. I thought I would share the screenshots that were part of that press pack, especially as they were not printed in the article. If you have found our website from reading that article, welcome! I’m really lazy about writing anything interesting here though… twitter is where you see some more action @NoMorePieGames
These images show the game is still a WIP, but as we approach Beta (honestly, we are still working hard to release this game very soon!) we are mainly working on features not visual quality. Amazing to see myself, as The Artist, typing that- but the game is more important than my picky art tastes right at this moment.
Here are some images.
ps. you can see a picture of me in the newspaper article, my secret identity revealed!
Right, I promised a while ago to blog more images/info about our game. Here goes with a rough screenshot I just found on my computer, taken while I was working on some texture variations in Unity. These are a bunch of AI robot baddies from Steal2. They are just some of the tracked robots that can attack you when robbing, but we have a few more styles of robots coming up also… creepy, or cute? Not sure myself!
Some of our agents attended a little gamedev get-together last night, and maybe you can tell that we live in a Scandinavian *Nordic country… because we had a sauna (+beer & pizza naturally)! A photographer was stalking us during the event… and it seems he managed to capture our secretive agents on camera! He even managed to get a shot of Steal 2 in action. We showed an earlier build of the game to our friends, and they seem to enjoy seeing it and playing it. We couldn’t show the current build- because it’s broken while we implement lots of changes to finalise the game design and UI. Things are looking good though, and we hope to have news for you very soon on when you can all play the game.
Some of No More Pie will be “working” a little less for us in the near future, and we’re a little sad about that. Members of our team are (or were) of course technically student interns. We never really think of anyone here at No More Pie in that way though, everyone is a full member of our team, and frankly our so called “interns” have contributed more than your average office worker. That’s how we roll here. Anyway, some of them have a bit of actual studying to do, so good luck with that! We wish them well. but more importantly the discussion turned to the infectious (cult like?!) way that we’ve persuaded them to actually work for us… and continue to work for our little band of crazy people!
This was said..
you can’t actually leave No More Pie… ;-) it’s like a permanent scar, or tattoo.
and while we laughed at the idea of a “tramp-stamp” tattoo of No More Pie.. an image was created! Now this post will serve as an official invitation to you all out there to go get this done! We dare you. We will offer a prize for anyone who does! (joke, seriously only joking- please don’t be so crazy.)
So as 2012 ends, let’s remember that our company was founded only in January! We’ve had a year of working on the reason we started the company. Project Steal was the game idea that sparked us into action, resulting in Steal 2 as we now know it. We managed to get enough funding to survive, and we got close to publicly releasing our game! That is quite some achievement, and we did it with the help of awesome team members and recruits. A big thanks to all who contributed in 2012. Now it’s time to look forward to 2013, a year which will see Steal 2 reveal itself fully to the world. We’d like 2013 to be the breakout year for No More Pie and we hope that our friends, our families, our colleagues, our fans, our supporters, our future players will all help us succeed with our dreams! We won’t be able to do it without you- so we will see you on the other side! Happy New Year!
Well well, what a year. We’ve been holed up in our home offices working, spread around the world. Sometimes it’s been awesome, and we’ve enjoyed the freedom that our virtual company brings. No 9-5 and no rules, but then… as we strive to ready our game Steal 2 (currently some private testing is finally happening!) we’ve been grinding a little bit, putting in some extra effort, and some amusing conversation popped up in our online office…
The Tech Guy
i cannot remember when i woke up
and i have a beard. i look like a homeless wizard
not sure if this working at home was a good thing
Ha- I haven’t left the flat all week except to walk the dog
Actually got some sleep last night tho, so don’t feel totally crap as usual
Was chatting to some old grandma in the park
First person I’ve chatted to all week
My friends are now random grandmas walking their dog.. Walked around the park with her!
I should blog about that….. glamorous side of indie dev
I’m prone to exaggeration, and luckily for me, my home city has an awesome shared office space that I can go and hang out in, so that can feel more like a normal working environment. Personally I really like working at home because I feel relaxed, and happy there. Also, I don’t live alone… my wife won’t be happy with my claims! It just happened to feel quite significant this week, to talk to another person, a very friendly old lady too!

Inspiration for our current game Steal 2, comes from many sources, many of which are political. As you can guess from the name though, our game is mostly about stealing, and in our research we were fascinated by this brilliant and detailed story of possibly the largest, and most impressive robbery ever carried out. An impenetrable vault, in the heart of Antwerp’s diamond district turned out to be.. well, not impenetrable at all. Click the link to find out how an amazing team of criminals very nearly got away with it…
About to try booking hotel rooms for some of our team, so we can visit the first ever games event that we have actually sponsored! Does that make us, you know, a proper games company? We are so organised, we’ve left it until a few days before… It’s an event taking place where one of our founders lives, in Finland, next week if you can make it. Cool huh? Check out the corporate marketing logos… with ours right there! Scroll down a bit obviously… we’re not rich like the others.
Before we founded No More Pie, we decided early on to be a 100% virtual company. This was part of our founding philosophy, to be truly free from the ancient Protestant work ethic we all know and seem to love. The cycle of 9-5, Mon-Fri is not for us- we don’t even have set working hours, or even a specific time zone. We are free to live anywhere in the world, work anytime we like- when we feel at our best. We don’t even have to stay in one place. Our founders and team members live that dream (nightmare?) every day. All we need is a working internet connection, and a laptop (both sometimes harder to find than you’d think). To be truly creative we feel people need to be happy and relaxed- what better place than ANY place? As I recently explained to some traditional business school people (they wanted to know what it’s like to be a “creative”) you can’t just buy some beanbags and BOOM you have a “creative” company atmosphere… it has to go deeper than that.
So prompted this week by Dr Green sending a snapshot of his office view in Thailand (see above, yes REALLY!), I thought I’d knock up a quick montage of a few offices that NMP team members have used so far this year. Some are home offices, some are schools, we even tried renting a shared space for a few months- but it wasn’t right for us.
There are more- but I had these at hand. The list of nations “occupied” in 2012 include various locations in Finland, USA, Vietnam, United Kingdom, Germany, and France! I’ve also made sure you can “photo reply” to this particular post, so feel free to send us your own workspace images!
Concept art for our game has been created by the entire art team here at No More Pie. I’m so glad to actually have a team, they rock! Since spring they’ve been working on awesome concept art, and awesome characters created from those concepts. Steal 2 is going to have a few surprises, but we won’t reveal all of those today. We can tell you that, as a player, you will come up against some enemies- defenders of treasures, protectors of wealth… guards you might call them. We have many, many designs. Let’s start by showing you some of our initial characters.
This is your basic security guard dude, he’s fairly harmless, but he does have a radio so watch out… might call for back up? Next up: watch out for military presence! The army don’t like bank robbers. Here’s some ideas we had on an officer character.
Last concept for today reveals that not all guards are human- yes, some pesky mechanical opponents will try to kill you (nice eh?). You might have spotted this little dude in the trailer- he looks cute, but he does not like thieves at all!
As you all know- we operate a secretive, hacker style operation here at No More Pie, so I cannot reveal the names or identities of the agents (artists) that created this work. One of them does seem to have left a clue though…! I will let that slide… great work, so be proud.
